The Emergency Shelter Program (ESP) is the result of a proposal of At Home in Evergreen to develop a cold weather Emergency procedure for our mountain community. The aim is to protect those most at risk by bringing individuals who are homeless in off the streets during severe cold weather when the temperature falls below 32 degrees. It began October 2016 with the help of 12 Evergreen congregations and agencies. To date, 4 congregations have served as hosts, opening their doors to overnight the homeless in our community. Christ the King Evergreen would like to be the fifth congregation to serve as a host church.
People in need of this service must register at EChO and receive a background check. Volunteers provide food for dinner, greeters, bus drivers, laundry of bedding, overnight supervision and other support services. Any volunteer that has direct contact with guests must be trained and also receive a background check. This program has the support and cooperation of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office.
If you would like to sign up as a volunteer for the ESP program, please email ESP@EvergreenChristnOutreach.org or call 303-670-1796. Please see their website or their facebook page for more information.
