Junípero Serra was a Spanish Franciscan Friar who lived in the 18th century and started a string of nine (which eventually grew to 21) missions throughout California. He is also a patron of vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Christ the King encourages parishioners and visitors to pray for his intercession so that the fruit of vocations may continue to spring forth from the parish and the whole American Church.
We also invoke Serra’s intercession on behalf of the many men who have already answered the call to priesthood and work tirelessly to keep up with the demands of the needs of the faithful in an ever-changing and increasingly hostile spiritual climate.
