Liturgical Ministries
Liturgical Ministries offer many wonderful ways for our parishioners — young and old — to serve at Mass. Each liturgical ministry builds up community and fosters active participation in the liturgy.
LITURGICAL MINISTRIES AVAILABLE TO LAY PARISHIONERS
Altar Server (Grades 4 and Older)
Altar servers assist the priest and deacon during Mass with sincere devotion and decorum in the spirit of the liturgy. Training is required. The ministry is open to anyone from the fourth grade and older.
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion (EMHC)
EMHC assist the priest and deacon at Mass with distribution of the Body and Blood of Our Lord and/or bring Holy Communion to the sick or homebound. EMHCs must be 18 years of age or older. Some training is required.
Hospitality & Welcoming Greeter
Hospitality ministers greet the faithful as they arrive, and help with any questions people might have. They serve in an essential way, by making Christ the King a welcoming place for parishioners and visitors alike.
Lector
Lectors play an important part in proclaiming the Scripture at Mass and help present to the faithful God’s story of love and salvation. They also read the announcements at the beginning of Mass.
Sacristan
Sacristans fill a vital role in the liturgy by setting up for Mass, checking in the other ministers, and making sure everything runs smoothly. Sacristans are usually scheduled once a month for 90 minutes.
