EMHC Training

What to Expect from EMHC Training:

Training for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHCs), Lectors, and Sacristans includes both spiritual formation and practical instruction to prepare you to serve reverently and confidently.

The training consists of three parts:

Archdiocese of Denver Formation Video

Covers the theology and spirituality of serving as an EMHC, along with practical guidance for distributing Holy Communion both during Mass and outside of Mass.

Featuring Fr. Daniel Cardo, who presents the theological and spiritual formation for EMHCs, and Mr. Hung Pham (Director of Liturgy for AOD), who reviews the practicalities and rubrics for EMs. (Also found on AOD website, Liturgy Office page).

See the video.

Archdiocese of Denver Training Booklet

Provides additional formation and serves as a helpful reference for the ministry. (Also found on the AOD website, Liturgy Office page)

Download the booklet.

Christ the King Training Video

Walks through the procedures and logistics specific to serving as an EMHC at CTK. It’s a few years old, so there are a few things that are changed, such as:

  • The CTK video states that the mandation period is for three years. According to the AOD video above, our mandation is for four years (the current mandation period runs 11/26/22 through 11/29/26).
  • If you’re distributing the Precious Blood at the sides of the altar, stand next to the handrails on the carpet at ground level. Do not stand on the step.
  • If someone approaches with arms crossed seeking a blessing, rather than touching the top of their head as in the video, you may simply say, “May you receive Jesus in your heart.”

Watch the video.

Together, these resources will help you understand both the meaning of this ministry and the practical responsibilities involved in serving at Christ the King.
